DIN 18008 Compliance for Aluminium-Framed Glass Railings — A Specifier's Reference
Glass build-ups, framing categories, line-load demand and impact verification for fall-protection glazing under DIN 18008-1 and DIN 18008-4.
Abstract
DIN 18008-4 is the German binding standard for fall-protection glazing. It defines three framing categories (A: line-supported four-sided, B: line-supported on lower edge with continuous top rail, C: point-fixed) and the corresponding glass build-ups, all of which must additionally satisfy the imposed line load qk per EN 1991-1-1 and a pendulum impact test for category B and C. This article distils the standard into a step-by-step verification path for aluminium-framed glass railings as supplied by VisioMod, with worked thicknesses for typical residential and assembly-area uses.
